Virtus Architectural Aluminium

Alu-Steel steel-look aluminium glazing on a contemporary stone home
Alu-Steel

Steel-inspired lines. Built in aluminium.

A thermally broken aluminium system inspired by classic steel glazing, combining strong architectural lines with modern aluminium performance for new buildings and refurbishments.

Sightline 72.5 mm
Versions Classic / Modern
Maximum height Up to 2600 mm
Maximum glazing Up to 54 mm
Two versions

One steel-look system. Two frame depths.

Alu-Steel is offered in Classic and Modern versions. Both retain the distinctive grid-led appearance, while the frame depth changes how the system integrates with the opening.

Steel-look detailing Strong horizontal and vertical lines give the glazing its distinctive architectural character.
Classic / Modern

Choose the frame around the architecture.

The two versions use different frame depths while retaining the same 72.5 mm system sightline and steel-inspired appearance.

Classic 100 mm frame

Classic version

Uses the deeper 100 mm frame, giving the system a different relationship with the surrounding wall and opening.

100 mm
Modern 75 mm frame

Modern version

Reduces the frame depth to 75 mm where the project calls for a more compact integration with the surrounding construction.

The important distinction Classic and Modern change the frame depth, not the reason for choosing Alu-Steel.

In either version, the system is intended to deliver the visual language of classic steel glazing through a thermally broken aluminium platform.

Behind the appearance

Steel-look character. Aluminium engineering.

The visual language may come from traditional steel glazing, but the system itself is built around a thermally broken aluminium construction with substantial glazing and sash capacity.

01

Thermally broken

32–39 mm

Polyamide separation within the aluminium system helps reduce direct thermal transfer through the framing.

02

Flexible glazing

20–54 mm

A broad glazing range gives the system flexibility around the requirements of the individual project.

03

Taller openings

Up to 2600 mm

Maximum stated sash dimensions reach 1500 mm wide by 2600 mm high, depending on typology.

04

Substantial sashes

Up to 160 kg

Designed to accommodate substantial glazed sash weights while retaining the steel-inspired visual language.

System construction The detailing is fine. The aluminium behind it is not flimsy.
Sash depth 83 mm
Profile thickness 1.5 mm
System European groove
Construction Thermally broken
Project fit

For architecture that needs more character.

Alu-Steel is aimed at projects where a conventional contemporary aluminium window would feel too plain, but genuine steel is not the direction the project wants to take.

Steel-inspired design The grid becomes part of the elevation, rather than something to hide.

Horizontal and vertical lines can be used deliberately to give glazing rhythm, proportion and a stronger relationship with the surrounding architecture.

01
New-build homes

Useful where a new elevation needs the character of traditional steel-look glazing without losing the benefits of aluminium construction.

02
Refurbishments

Particularly relevant where the architectural language of an existing property calls for stronger, more traditional glazing lines.

03
Feature elevations

Grid-led glazing can become a deliberate architectural feature rather than simply filling an opening with glass.

04
Tall glazed openings

The system supports sash heights up to 2600 mm where the composition calls for taller proportions.

Final specification The grid, sash size and frame version should be designed as one composition.

Maximum dimensions and sash weights depend on the final typology. The opening, glazing specification and Classic or Modern frame should be confirmed around the individual project.
